ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. (Oct. 27) — While the student turnout may have been low, the importance of the event did not alter.
Yesterday at 3:30 p.m., St. Bonaventure University officials ranging from university president Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F. to the board of trustees helped bless the cornerstone of the William A. & Ann L. Swan Business Center.
“Bless those who will learn here,” said Fr. Francis Di Spigano, O.F.M., executive director of university ministries. “May they not only learn the laws of good business but also the laws of their life.”
Fr. Francis also blessed the professors, the construction workers and the school.
Nearly 50 people attended the ceremony. Most of them, however, were faculty or staff.
After Fr. Francis finished his biblical reading, he assisted Sr. Margaret in unveiling the cornerstone reading, “2013.”
After much excitement, Fr. Francis handed holy water to Sr. Margaret and each trustee to toss on the stone and bless it.
“Built upon the foundation of the Apostles, the Christ Jesus eyes the cornerstone,” said Fr. Francis. “Now with Christ the structure holds together. In him you also are being built together. Into a drawing place of God, in God’s spirit. We mark the walls with the sign of 2012. See and be. May Christ bless this house.”
“May God bless this building in the name of the father, the son and the Holy Spirit. Amen”
Once the blessing had been completed, Sr. Margaret invited everyone into the Reilly Center for a reception.
