Carroll “Mike” Reilly graduated from St. Bonaventure University in 1925 as an outstanding scholar athlete. He returned in 1928 as the head basketball coach and as a mathematics professor.
In 1930, he was named football coach and director of athletics.
During his time as coach, his teams were said to possess the exact talents he did—aggressiveness, discipline and spirit.
Reilly also showed great sympathy and compassion. He worked three jobs for the salary of one (he taught, coached and also counseled students).
He was well regarded by many students and colleagues.
However, it was on this day that Reilly resigned as coach (of both basketball and football).
After he died in 1971, the University Center was renamed the Reilly Center in his honor.
